There are many ways people try and make there Adsense more profitable. Unfortunately they use tactics which violate the Terms of Service (TOS) at Google. This invariably leads to being banned and earning absolutely no money! The last thing that you want. Here are some classic mistakes that have resulted in people previously being banned.

Placing too many ads on your site not only goes against the TOS but means that visitors are bombarded with a pageful of ads. They will see your website and leave very quickly.
Not reading the TOS is a bad mistake. Get used to what you can and can't do, and if in doubt, ask the Google team.
Do not change the code that Google gives you. This is a sure fire way to get yourself banned. This includes changing font style and size.
Do not try and cheat the system by creating anything like a group of people that will click your ads. You will get found out and banned.
Do not label the ads with text other than "sponsored links" or "advertisements". This includes any text directly above the ads that could be confused with, or attempt to be associated with Google ads.
Don't create websites to just display ads. It is part of the policy that your website must contain some viable content for the visitor.
